What the first appointment reviews

How much weight you have lost and over what period; whether your weight has been steady, and for how long; what your blood work shows and when it was last repeated; how much muscle and physical function you have kept; whether any skin fold is inflamed, macerating, odorous or restricting you; which regions have excess skin and which have fat that is still present; what you have already been offered elsewhere; and what you want the plan to achieve, described in your own terms rather than from someone else's photograph.

What to bring

Your most recent blood tests if you have them, and the date they were taken. A list of your current medicines, including anything bought without a prescription. Photographs of yourself at different weights if your weight has changed a great deal, because a trend is easier to read from pictures than from memory. Any plan or quotation you have been given elsewhere — reviewing a plan you already have is a legitimate reason to book.

What happens if the answer is to wait

You will be told, and why. Many assessments at this stage end with a recommendation to hold off: because weight is still moving, because a deficiency needs correcting first, because the problem is muscle or nutrition rather than skin, because a functional skin problem should be treated before anything cosmetic, or because the honest answer is that no operation is worth having yet. That is a result rather than a rejection, and the reasons are usually written down so that you know what would change the answer.

How to arrange it

Contact the outpatient line, or write through the address on the contact page, and say that you are asking about planning after major weight loss. If you are travelling from outside Chongqing, say so when you book: the team can tell you which parts of the assessment can be started by remote consultation and which need an in-person examination of the skin and the abdominal wall.
